38 IPEAA homes

By appointment of the Institute for Facilitated Housing Construction of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the early nineties I have worked on an extremely interesting project for the construction of 38 homes in the former “Case Semirurali” (“Semirural Homes”) district of Bolzano. The project was inspired by the interventions which had characterized the reconstruction of some Siedlungen (subsidized housing estates) in Berlin (O.M. Ungers), as well as by the influence of certain important planning studies active at the time in England (Darbourne & Darke).

The project was characterized by an extremely detailed planning stage where a harmonic succession of spaces was studied and constructed, going from the strictly private areas of the living quarters to semi-private shared areas to public areas, guaranteeing each home with originality, a small outdoor garden or breathing area and a complete fulfilment of functional needs. All these years later, the excellent conservation state of the buildings is a sign of the appreciation that the residents themselves have given to the homes assigned to them.
